Only ten days after his parents' departure for a research trip to Africa, everything is going wrong at Los Coyotes, his family's private big cat preserve. The chief animal handler has been hospitalized, leaving Ben to manage the place on his own. And now a mysterious sniper stalks the preserve night after night, shooting at the huge lions, tigers, and other big cats that inhabit the compounds.

Who is doing this and why? Neither Ben nor Deputy Sheriff Metcalf can find any solid evidence, though they know many of the neighbors would try almost anything to drive the Jepsons and their dangerous animals out of the canyon--even killing.
