Product Description

Here's a fun, hands-on way for Braille learners young and old to practice creating and reading by touch! Using this tool, you can insert pegs to spell out an entire word or name in jumbo Braille dots, much more interesting than working letter by letter on a single-cell Braille block!

Made of smooth, solid wood and measuring just two by ten inches, this long, narrow block easily tucks into a backpack or sits on the front of any bookshelf. It features an eight-cell line of extra-large Braille, each cell with two columns of three holes, representing the six dots in a Braille cell. Insert any of the included 48 wooden pegs into holes in any cell to form the Braille message of your choice.

Spell out different names, words, or a series of letters and pass the block around so everyone can try their hand at creating and reading Braille on this attractive, wooden peg board. Eight separate cells allow you to use the capital sign, create multi-digit numbers, even make contracted Braille. Keep it as simple or advanced as you wish.

The top-left corner of our wooden Braille name block is cut at an angle to aid with correct orientation. Simply touch the angled corner above and to the left of Dot 1 of the first cell to make sure the block is right-side up.

In addition, the pegs have ridged sides for easy grasping and manipulation). This is helpful for youngsters still developing fine motor skills or adult Braille learners with diabetes or neuropathy. The pegs themselves fit snugly into the holes, yet are removed without difficulty. The pegs are a quarter-inch in diameter, and thus much larger than the tiny metal pins found in other multi-cell Braille learning boards. Finally, the pegs come packed in a drawstring cloth pouch for convenient storage and to facilitate effortless clean-up.

Designed by a certified rehabilitation teacher of the blind and proudly made in the USA, our Braille Name Block is a great way to get the whole class or family involved in the Braille learning process.
